Onshore Energy Conference is delighted to open applications for insurance industry professionals to attend a short technical training course. This course has been designed between Cranfield, OEC, and energy insurance market professionals.

 FAQs

What is it? - Over a two-day period, this short course will showcase Cranfield University's research work under the energy theme. The course will offer lectures from leading experts in energy systems through to guided and informative tours of Cranfield’s demonstrator sites and test facilities to see some of the new technologies in action.  As such it will be very hands-on.

Why Cranfield? – OEC has developed a relationship with Cranfield as was seen at the recent OEC London 2024, where Dr Lis Shrimpton of Cranfield was a mainstage presenter.   Cranfield has an excellent reputation for teaching and is home to many world-class, large scale, national facilities that enhance research and teaching.  Cranfield has mutually beneficial relationships with nearly 1,500 organisations.  Details can be found at www.cranfield.ac.uk  though not about this specific training course.   Cranfield University, College Rd, Wharley End, Bedford MK43 0AL is easily accessible from London.   Nearest mainline railway stations are Milton Keynes Central and Bedford Midland. Both are less than 30 minutes by taxi.  Parking is available on site.

What will the course cover?

  • Solar futures (including floating and space)

  • Onshore and offshore wind

  • Integrated systems and grid decarbonisation

  • Hydrogen and alternative fuels

  • Corrosion and materials for deployment

  • Emissions beyond net zero

  • Energy transitions and cross-sector implications

  • Social dimensions of net zero and policy - where are we and where do we need to be?

    When is it? - Monday 10 – Tuesday 11 March 2025

    How much is it? - £1,200.   No VAT is payable on this as the course is run by the University.

    What is included? – all training materials, overnight accommodation will be provided and there will be a networking dinner, with drinks sponsored by JS Held on the evening of 10 March at the Cranfield Management Development Centre.   www.cranfield.ac.uk/facilities/cranfield-management-development-centre  Accommodation for Sunday evening 9 March is available at extra cost.   Travel to Cranfield is the responsibility of the attendee.

    Can I use this course to support my ongoing CPD? – Yes!

    Who should attend? - This course is specifically designed for those involved in the energy insurance sector who want a better understanding of the technology they are insuring from underwriting, engineering and claims.   We also welcome those from legal or finance backgrounds.

    How do I apply? – Respond to David Leich, david@oecevents.com with your name, employing company, job title, number of years in the energy sector and a brief description of your highest academic qualification.  

    What happens after I apply?  - OEC will select 40 people, we will provide you with registration details to a Cranfield University web page.   At that point you will be contracting directly with Cranfield University and subject to their Short Course Terms and Conditions which you will sign up to online.

    What happens if I am unable to attend? – If you notify Cranfield in writing within working 10 days before the course starts, Cranfield will allow a full refund, alternatively you may nominate an alternate person from your Company to attend on your behalf.

    Will this course be repeated? – We are planning to run a second course in June 2025, dates to be finalized.
